Why you'd want to live in Arroyo Grande
The historical and agricultural hub of the Five Cities, Arroyo Grande is a beautiful sprawling city that extends into the canyons of the foothills in south San Luis Obispo County. The township was first established in 1862. Arroyo Grande celebrates a lot of this history in the Historic Village, a downtown strip with local business, large parks, great restaurants and infamous for free roaming chickens that can be found wandering and roosting all over the half mile square downtown and creek area. Local features include Lopez Lake, a small recreation reservoir, "The Mesa" a beautiful plateau above the Oceano dunes with ocean and valley views, and many canyons and rolling hills with many ranches and equestrian centers hidden away. Well known for a Temperate Mediterranean climate, Arroyo Grande has many micro-climates that foster the rich agriculture in the area including strawberries, vineyards, citrus and avocado orchards.
